After many years of seriously hard work behind the scenes by a core group of dedicated volunteers, the new SmART Ringer website is up and running. Judith Frye, who worked on the project, introduces the new look SmART Ringer website on page 13.
This project brought together a diverse set of bellringers who also happened to have two qualities – a transferable skill from their professional life and also a strong motivation to make a contribution which makes our experience of ringing better for everyone. They are probably all glad the project has finally been signed off, but they will keep giving back to their own towers, associations or teaching hubs with their ringing and teaching skills, or in many of the other different ways ringers can contribute – financial skills, practical hands-on skills, organisational skills, social and communication skills – the possibilities are numerous.
Many ringers contribute in this way. Two stand-out contributors were acknowledged in the recent Learning the Ropes Achievement Awards and you can read all about them and what they have done on page 7. They are so inspiring! You don’t have to do much to make a difference. Even something as small as befriending a new ringer with a friendly smile or helping them with advice on how you dealt with an obstacle they are facing is the first step in creating a mutually trusting and supportive band.
