The Association of Ringing Teachers are delighted (and proud) to send our best wishes to Pip Penney who has received an MBE in the 2026 King’s Birthday Honours, both for her services to Young People and to Bell Ringing overall.
Pip’s contribution to the way ringing is taught and learned comes from her long career as a physiotherapist, using her professional knowledge to break down skills into clear, manageable steps and devise a structured plan for teachers to use in the tower. This process evolved to become the ‘Learning the Ropes’ scheme which is now widely used by thousands of ringing teachers and new ringers all over the world.
Through the ART training modules Pip developed for teaching handling, foundation skills and early change ringing, many people have developed and extended their teaching skills and Pip’s award is well deserved for this enormous contribution.
Congratulations and thank you as always, Pip!
