Dear ART Members,
You may be aware that the latest version of SmART Ringer is currently not able to process extensions to ringers who have the date of their ART Day Course (this can be an M1, M2F or M2C Course) over two years in the past.
Below is what is currently in the ART Regulations:
Time Limit
Candidates have two years from the date of the day course to book an assessment. The booking should normally be no more than 2 months in the future and cannot be more than 6 months in the future.
If a candidate’s enrolment has expired, as they have exceeded the two-year limit without passing an assessment booked within the time limit above, the following will apply:
- If their day course was completed more than two years but less than five years ago:
- They can request enrolment on the relevant online refresher course available at bellringing.org.
- They must complete online refresher training and a new theory test at bellringing.org.
- Completion of a new theory test will allow up to a further 12 months to complete accreditation by booking an assessment.
- Candidates can complete the online refresher course and associated theory test more than once, but the period allowed for completion of accreditation cannot extend beyond 5 years from their day course.
- Candidates can also opt to undertake a further day course at any point to restart their training.
- If their day course was completed 5 or more years ago candidates must restart the training programme via enrolment on another day course.
If there are any extenuating circumstances that a candidate wishes to be taken into consideration, they should make an application under the Right of Review at least 14 days before their current enrolment expires. Where the circumstances merit it, the Chair may award a short extension of 180 days to allow completion of accreditation. Note that extensions will only be granted where an active enrolment exists and cannot be awarded for past enrolments which have ended.
This, as you can imagine has caused a few concerns, where there is a valid reason for an extension to be granted, so a ringer may be assessed after the two-year period has passed.
So, I am giving notice that as from 23:59 on 16th November 2026, I will be suspending the above regulation.
The ART AMC and IT team are working hard to sort out this concern. I will be back in contact, as soon as possible with full details of changes to the Time Limit regulations that can be processed by SmART Ringer.
In the meantime, if you have any questions about this matter please contact ART Administrator Rose Nightingale, rose.nightingale@bellringing.org
