Thanks to everyone involved in making the ART Conference a great success, including those good folks from Yorkshire who organised the event. Special thanks go to the Minster ringers for giving up their Sunday afternoon to ring with us and Alison Edmonds whose hard work behind the scenes was clear for all to see.
The organising committee of Annie Hall, Monica Hollows and Arthur Reeves designed an engaging programmed exploring the theme of leadership, which came through in its many guises during every presentation and workshop:
- Tina Stoecklin – What can martial arts teach us about leadership
- Adam Lockwood – What skydiving can teach us about leadership
- Jane Lynch and Harry Helyer – Leading a youth team
- Chris Enzor – Understanding your safeguarding responsibilities
- Elva Ainsworth – Ringing culture: help or hindrance?
- Lucy Chandhial – Making bellringing available
- Andrew Slade – Rhythm and pulse
- Arthur Reeves – Restocking the toolbox
- Julia Cater – Helping tower captains have difficult conversations with their ringers
- Christine Richardson – Correcting common handling problems
- Nikki Thomas – Using a simulator to inspire your band
- Matt Thewsey – Exploring Hawkear
- Elaine and Peter Scott – Using handbells for learning
- Matt Lawrence and Lesley Boyle – The route from M1 to M2 and the role of the hub
- Simon Linford – Changes in churches
- Dee Smith, Arthur Reeves, Annie Hall – Teacher, mentor or coach – who do you want to be?
The conference ended with ringing at York Minster. In the words of one delegate: “What an amazing experience. A great reminder of the absolute joy that bell ringing can bring.”
See you next year at Loughborough.
