Definition of Vulnerable Adult
In law a vulnerable adult is someone over the age of 18 who needs extra support or protection from harm, abuse, or exploitation. For example, they may be elderly, have a physical or learning disability, sensory impairment, or mental health problems. They are unable to take care of themselves, receive support services and are dependent on others. The Church’s safeguarding guidance recognises a wider group of adults needing pastoral care, protection from harm or special consideration.
