On Saturday 24th of February my husband, Tom Griffiths, and I attended the Module 2C course, a part of the ART Teacher Training Scheme. Tom and I attended Module 1 early 2022 in Ryton and found this course to be so helpful with moving our ringers on and maintaining our steady stream of learners, that we wanted to progress our learning to the next stage.
Module 2C is about moving our learners on from rounds and call changes to now looking at change ringing, but in a bite size way that won’t overwhelm them. 12 people from various towers from a relatively large geographical area attended this course. Nick Brett was our tutor for the day. Nick made everyone very welcome and the words of encouragement to progress and motivate ourselves and others was well received.
Our day consisted of a range of activities both in the tower and as theory going through a presentation in the church. We learnt many training techniques and fun games/teaching methods that can engage our learners in a positive way, while still progressing them to the next level. Tom and I have been ringing for many years and yet we still learnt new methods we had not used before, and we practiced them in the tower so that we can deliver them with confidence when we get back to our home tower.
We also received packs with training tools and guidebooks that we can use as resources to support us after the training day. For the cost of the course, we got an enormous amount of resources and very well looked after for the day, I would strongly recommend this course to any ringing teachers out there.
Lighthorne offered great facilities, it was warm in the church and toasty in the tower. We had a lunch provided by the friendly local ringers and many cups of tea and coffee. The bells themselves are easy to ring. The equipment that allowed us to ring with tied ropes worked well indeed as we would have made a noise all day otherwise.
Huge thanks to the Lighthorne team who helped and fed us on the day, to Annie Hall who got us organised and booked on to the course, and of course to Nick Brett for giving up his time to teach and support everyone on the day. Also thank you to Rose Nightingale who answers our queries for the SmART Ringer website and is always so helpful. The ART Teacher Training Scheme is a well organised and established outfit, thank you to the patrons for providing us all with this valuable resource.
