Twelve people attended the Module 1 course, led by Clare McArdle, at St Helen’s Church Abingdon on Saturday 23rd September. The group was a good mix of age groups ranging from about late 20s through to retirees. Everyone interacted well and it was good to share stories. Some of the group had already been teaching whilst others, like me, had no experience.
The course was a great blend of theory and practical work. Each theory session lasted between 30 and 45 minutes – long enough for Clare to explain things in detail, and to answer the various questions. After each theory session we put that information into practice after being given examples by Clare and one of the ART accredited teachers who were assisting for the day. We were split into teams of three, made up of tutor, learner and observer. The roles were rotated so everyone could experience each aspect. Whilst this was happening, Clare and the ART accredited teachers were circulating to each group answering questions and helping out if required.
I thought the mix of theory and practical was perfect. So often theory sessions can last too long and people switch off, at no point did I sense anyone had become disengaged.
