Recently I attended the ART Training Scheme Level 1 Teaching Bell Handling Course. It was suggested to me, by the Tower Captain, that I should attend. I am not an accomplished ringer and am currently moving from Call Change Ringing to Method. So it was with a little trepidation that I attended the course. I needn’t have worried though as all the other ringers had similar thoughts.
The course was very well thought through and offered the correct amounts of theory and practical work. The Theory was clearly and concisely explained. Visual materials were used very well and all questions were fully answered and in many cases led to a discussion.
The practical sessions reflected what had been explained. Although it was slightly daunting explaining what to do to a pretend learner and then having the drama of swapping ropes whilst ringing. Everything was accomplished in a friendly and fun manner.
From a personal point of view, I really enjoyed the day. I picked up many things that I had never been shown or perhaps forgotten – all of which will improve my ringing. The issue I will now have will be finding a pupil to teach.
Les is clearly a very experienced ringer and teacher. I would recommend this course to any ringer and hopefully, I will be able to attend more courses in the future.
