Wednesday 30th August saw the Association of Ringing Teachers run one of the Module 1 ‘Bell Handling’ courses. With the fantastic arrangement from Paul Flavell, Ed & Val Muller and the ART Team, Surrey were able to host it at Bletchingley. We had around 13 students with 5 young ringers attending, including 2 of the Surrey Strikers! This was an ideal venue for the course as tower access is easy (ground floor), as well as classroom and lunch facilities both located in Church House.
The course was led by an excellent tutor, David Sparling, who taught us at what I felt was just the right pace. Quick enough for it to not be boring, but slow enough for us to fully understand what was being taught.
The course covered techniques for teaching each stroke separately and how to combine them – as well as ringing up and down, completed by a practical exercise on spotting & rectifying handling issues. I think we all concluded that this was a day well spent. I’m certainly looking forward to doing Module 2!
