I came back to ringing about six years ago when we retired to Somerset. I have loved returning to ringing but never imagined that I would become Tower Captain or a ringing teacher, but here I am embarking on this new challenge!
Our two local ART ringing teachers have become less available to teach recently and so I thought that it was time for me to step up. We have four learners who are just about at Learning the Ropes Level 1 so this seemed like the ideal time to undertake Module 2F to support them through the next part of their ringing journey.
There were eight participants at the Module 2F course at Hillfarrance on the 29th July. Most were fairly local, although one had travelled from Wales. There was a good mix of theory and practical exercises so all learning styles and levels of experience in both ringing and teaching could be accommodated. Les Boyce led the day with support from Jill Hansford and Sheila Scofield and I found that the day flew by. There were a lot of opportunities for us to have a go at exercises to help our teaching, and to have a go at teaching too.
We all had a lot of fun and also had our brains challenged. Getting my head around calling changes using places rather than bell numbers took considerable thought! We all came away buzzing with ideas and a good sense of what we needed to do next to gain accreditation. Les, Sheila and Jill provided endless patience, support and encouragement and really got the best out of everyone. We were kept very well fed and watered with tea, coffee and cake during the day and a very good lunch provided in the local pub a short walk away.
